A day in the life of an Indian scavenger

Ten-year-old Imradul Ali doesn’t have a childhood like we had. After his school is over, Ali goes to a landfill in the slums of Guwahati where he hunts through heaps of other people’s garbage, searching for plastic bottles, glass or anything that he can recycle or sell. Earning about Rs 100 a day, Ali contributes to the family’s income to make ends meet. Here are some pictures by photojournalist Anupam Nath for the Associated Press that document a day in the life of Ali, a child scavenger.
