End Child Labour, Not Childhood
With 55% of the population residing in rural Maharashtra and being India’s 4th most rural populous state, we went on to understand the situation of children in rural Maharashtra Maharashtra by conducting ‘Child Protection Baselines’ in 54 villages across Yavatmal and Jalna in collaboration with #UNICEFIndia and other partner organisations.
Through our intensive data collection and Focus Group Discussions, we found that increased scarcity of drinking water, huge crop failure, eroded livelihood, mounting debt, farmer suicides have pushed families to accept seasonal migration as a way of life in rural Maharashtra. This gets further amplified owing to ineffective social programs and schemes that impacts a child’s #Childhood
The data in the infographic below intensifies other risks such as substance addiction, increased drop-out rate, early marriage, ignoring health that leads malnutrition of children.
