HUMARASAMUHKAISAHO - A Guide to Working with Children’s Groups is a practical, experiential learning resource developed by Leher to support facilitators in forming and strengthening children’s groups. The guide aims to create safe and nurturing spaces where children can develop their voice, agency and collective identity, participate meaningfully in matters that affect them, and contribute to making their communities safer and more child-friendly. The guide takes facilitators through five phases, from initiating and forming a children’s group, to building an understanding of collective action, developing group foundations, exploring deeper issues and life skills, and finally supporting children to advocate and take action for the protection and promotion of their rights. It uses an experiential, “learning by doing” approach, with group activities, discussions, reflection and locally relevant examples at its core. At its heart, the guide is about enabling children to move from participation to collective agency, creating spaces where they can understand their rights, identify issues, express their views and take action to influence their communities.
